More than 100 artists and artisans are preparing for next weekend’s annual Artists in Buffalo’s Holiday Open Studios and Galleries.
It’s the opportunity to visit galleries, studios and homes, meet with artists and, of course, shop. What you’ll find: jewelry, pottery, paintings, glasswork, sculpture, textile/fabric creations, Buffalo-themed gifts, metalwork and more.
Hours: 5 to 9 p.m. Friday; 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday and next Sunday. Visit www.artistsinbuffalo.org for a map and list of artists participating. Or pick up a printed mailer at any of the participating artists’ studios or galleries. New this year: Gift basket raffle.
A word from the furniture world: Nailhead trim is back in a big way and not just on manly leather chairs.
During the recent home furnishings market in High Point, N.C., it showed up on a blue velvet settee and small-scale ottoman, and on consoles, chests and buffets.
“We’re excited to see the creative use of nailhead trim on wood furnishings,” said Jackie Hirschhaut, vice president of the American Home Furnishings Alliance, in a trend report. “The industry’s top designers have embraced this as the new ‘on-trend’ embellishment and used it to distinguish their latest introductions.”
Winter closet checklist
In her book “Cupcakes and Cashmere: A Guide for Defining Your Style, Reinventing Your Space and Entertaining With Ease” (Abrams Image, $19.95), style blogger/author Emily Schuman offers this list of 15 items for winter dressing:
Faux-fur vest, messenger bag, tie-neck blouse, heavy coat, leather gloves, sequined top/jacket/cardigan, menswear-inspired blazer, cape/poncho, sweater dress, winter white pants in heavier fabric, statement necklace, textured skirt, cashmere sweater, beaded/sparkly clutch and heeled boots in black.
And finally …
“If Goldie Hawn were your mom, you’d share clothes too! I once went over to her house in sweats and left in Alexandre Birman heels – which I still haven’t given back.”
– Kate Hudson, In Style magazine
