It was an aggressive schedule, but that’s just fine with St. Bonaventure. It welcomes the challenge. And tonight will be one of the biggest the Bonnies have faced as they meet No. 8 Georgia in the first round of the New Mexico Tournament.

The Bonnies (3-1) are coming off their first loss of the season, a 52-49 setback at Fairfield on Tuesday. Bona shot just 31.6 percent from the field and went 0 for 6 from three-point range. It also finished with zero assists in a game in which the Bonnies never led.

The team has struggled offensively this season, averaging just 53.8 points a game. The defense has been steady. Opponents are averaging just 45 points a game against the Bonnies.

Expect that statistic to change after tonight’s meeting with Georgia. The Lady Bulldogs are 5-0 and coming off a 94-57 win over Savannah State. They’re averaging 69.8 points a game, led by Jasmine Hassell’s 12.8 scoring average.

Host New Mexico plays North Texas in the other game with the consolation and championship games slated for Saturday.

Meanwhile, the University at Buffalo plays at No. 24 Dayton in the first game of the Marriott Classic. The host Flyers (4-0) are coming off a 71-66 win over No. 13 Vanderbilt.

The Bulls are 1-3 and have struggled to score. They are averaging just 54.8 points a game.

In the classic format, Buffalo will face Eastern Illinois on Saturday.
