WYRK's Winter Taste of Country finds three up-and-coming acts joining together to offer an evening of stripped-down, intimate acoustic music. This year's show takes place at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday in Shea's Performing Arts Center (646 Main St.).

Traditionally, the WYRK acoustic shows have offered emerging artists an opportunity to present their songs in an "unplugged" environment, with an easygoing interplay and a conversational demeanor providing concertgoers a much more personal experience than a high-wattage, arena extravaganza might offer. This works particularly well with country music the scaled-back presentation reacquaints the genre with its acoustic, folk-based roots, and allows the artist's songwriting to do the talking.

For the 2012 edition, WYRK has enlisted the talents of singer/songwriter Jerrod Niemann ("Lover, Lover," "What Do You Want"), Nashville duo Love & Theft ("Runaway," "Angel Eyes") and newcomer Joanna Smith ("Gettin' Married").

Tickets are $20-$60 (box office, Ticketmaster).
