Norman J. Michael Sr., a longtime hardware store owner, died Monday in his Angola home while under hospice care. He was 78.
Born in Buffalo, he was a graduate of Canisius High School and served as a private specialist third class in the Army from 1953 to 1956. Mr. Michael was the owner of Norm’s True Value Hardware store on Genesee Street in Buffalo from 1970 to 1999. He retired from the business in 1996.
A longtime bowler, Mr. Michael hunted big game all over the world. He was a member of the Holy Name Society and St. Vincent de Paul Society of Most Precious Blood Catholic Church in Angola.
His wife, the former Carole J. Zettlemoyer, died in 2004.
He is survived by two sons, Norman Jr. and Michael D.; two daughters, Susan and Karen Michael; and two sisters, Theresa Becker and Ramona Arida.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10 a.m. Friday in Most Precious Blood Church, 22 Prospect St., Angola.
