OLEAN – State Police Friday reported that troopers based in Olean issued 27 tickets over a six-hour period while conducting a targeted enforcement detail associated with Operation Hang Up.

Of those summonses, there were 11 for speeding, a pair for seat belt violations and a dozen more for “move-over” violations.

Enacted Jan. 1, 2011, the “move-over law” requires motorists “to exercise due care and move over when possible when an emergency vehicle is pulled over on the side of the road,” State Police officials reported.

The law holds special meaning for area troopers who lost one of their own, Trooper Kevin P. Dobson Sr. on March 26, 2011 when the 14-year veteran was struck by a passing motorist during a traffic stop on the Youngmann Memorial Highway in the Town of Tonawanda.
