LEWISBURG, Pa. – Niagara made a charge in the second half but could not overcome a 20-point deficit and dropped a 77-69 decision to Bucknell in women’s basketball action on Thanksgiving Eve.
The Purple Eagles trailed, 45-25, with 15:38 left in the second half, but some solid perimeter shooting got them back in the game.
Niagara went 7 of 14 from three-point range in the second half. A three-pointer from Kayla Stroman cut the lead to four, 62-58, with 3:13 left to play. But Bucknell’s Shelby Romine answered with a three-pointer of her own to quell the run.
Sophomore Kelly Van Leeuwen led Niagara (1-3) with 17 points, including going 4 of 7 from three-point range.
Bucknell (2-2) made 24 of its 30 free throw attempts. Niagara made 12 of 13.
