A Pennsylvania teenager was killed Tuesday night in Allegany County when she was ejected from an ATV on which she was a passenger, State Police said. The driver was also seriously injured with head, neck and leg injuries.

At about 10 p.m. Tuesday, Kyle McPherson, 16, of Andover was operating a 2002 Yamaha ATV on Heselton Gully Road in the Town of Independence. Jocelyn M. Saunders, 17, of Genesee, Pa., was his passenger.

Investigators said McPherson failed to negotiate a “moderate” curve and drove off the side of the road. The vehicle went down a ravine before coming to rest, according to a statement from State Police.

Both McPherson and Saunders were ejected.

Saunders was pronounced dead at the scene. McPherson was transported by LifeNet to Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call State Police in Amity at (585) 268-9030.

Independence Police and Ambulance, Whitesville Fire Department and Wellsville Ambulance assisted at the scene.
