A hit-and-run driver in Niagara Falls was tracked down and taken into police custody and a 58-year-old pedestrian victim was recovering late Wednesday from non-life-threatening injuries, Niagara Falls Police reported.
The incident occurred about 6:30 p.m. in the 9200 block of Niagara Falls Boulevard. The male victim was in the median when he was hit by a driver who then fled the scene, according to Police Superintendent John R. Chella.
Police, acting on a tip that included the plate number of the vehicle, tracked the vehicle down to 87th Street and found it unoccupied, Chella said, adding that a short time later, the driver was found by police hiding behind a nearby garage.
The driver, whose name was not immediately disclosed, was charged with leaving the scene of an injury accident. Chella said the driver was also undergoing blood and alcohol screening tests late Wednesday.
