Jane H. Paolini of Williamsville, a registered nurse who was active as a volunteer, died Saturday in Buffalo General Medical Center. She was 87.
The former Jane Hoyt was born in Syracuse, attended St. Joseph Hospital School of Nursing in Syracuse and earned her bachelor’s degree in nursing from Columbia University Teacher’s College.
She worked as a solderer at General Electric in Syracuse during World War II and later joined the Air Force, advancing to the rank of captain. She was stationed in Laredo, Texas, and Tachikawa, Japan, where she met and married her husband, Dr. Stephen J. Paolini.
As a registered nurse, she did private duty nursing at St. Joseph Hospital in Syracuse and specialized in pediatrics at St. Luke’s Hospital in New York City. She moved to the Buffalo area in 1959.
The mother of six daughters, Mrs. Paolini was a former member of the Women’s Board of the Amherst Symphony Orchestra and a former member of the Volunteer Board at Erie County Medical Center, where her husband was a member of the staff. He died in 1992.
Surviving are five daughters, Elizabeth P. Hanson, Margaret, Jo Ellen P. Pinkham, Karen P. Shahidi and Mary P. Ward.
Prayers will be offered at 9:45 a.m. Wednesday in Amigone Funeral Home, 5200 Sheridan Drive, Amherst, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday in St. Gregory the Great Catholic Church, 200 St. Gregory Court, Amherst.
