Laurence B. Karmel of Orchard Park, an environmental engineer for the Seneca Nation of Indians, died Thursday from injuries he suffered in a motor vehicle accident in Hamburg. He was 62.
A native of the Bronx, he earned a bachelor’s degree in environmental science from Purchase State College, followed by a master’s in environmental engineering from Penn State. Mr. Karmel moved to the Buffalo area in 1991, when he went to work for the West Valley Demonstration Project. He had been working as a utilities consultant for the Seneca Nation for the past three years.
He is survived by his wife of 37 years, the former Phyllis Platt; a daughter, Ilene Farkas; a son, Michael; and a sister, Alice Juda.
A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Sunday in Amigone Funeral Home, 6170 West Quaker Road, Orchard Park.
