LOCKPORT – A Niagara Falls man, accused of trying to rape a 60-year-old Falls woman in her home Jan. 21, pleaded guilty Friday to first-degree sexual abuse.

Because he is a repeat felon, Jeffrey Brantley, 47, of Walnut Avenue, faces mandatory state prison time of up to seven years. Niagara County Judge Sara Sheldon Farkas will sentence him Feb. 13.

Assistant District Attorney Robert A. Zucco said the victim approved the plea offer.

“I feel we have a very vulnerable victim,” Zucco said. “She is anxious to the point of needing [medical] treatment.”

Brantley was accused of being in the woman’s house for two hours. The woman held a statue of the Virgin Mary to try to persuade Brantley from assaulting her; the statue was broken in the struggle.
