A 14-year-old from Long Island has died after suffering a cardiac arrest and collapsing during a cross-country race in Elma last week.

Ronan Guyer, a freshman at Southold High School on Long Island, died Wednesday night in Women & Children’s Hospital, family members told Newsday.

Guyer was participating in the statewide cross-country championship at Elma Meadows, when he slipped on a patch of mud and hit the ground hard with his chest on Nov. 9, the newspaper reported. Guyer had been at the Buffalo hospital in a medically induced coma since his fall.
