NIAGARA FALLS – Design work and planning for the Niagara Falls School District’s $66.7 million “Inventing Tomorrow” capital improvement program is under way, and construction should be finished by the end of 2015, School Board members were told Thursday.

Representatives of Cannon Design of Grand Island and Ciminelli Development Co. of Amherst gave a nearly 90-minute slide presentation on concepts for the renovation or expansion of each of the city’s school buildings under the bond issue approved in September by Niagara Falls voters.

Key issues in the design are that the work not increase local school taxes, that the cost be absorbed by the state, and that it integrate science, technology, engineering and mathematics laboratories in every school.

In a separate project, school athletic fields will be upgraded and provided with artificial turf through Greenway funding from the New York Power Authority.
