Buffalo is one of 10 U.S. cities that will receive a $50,000 grant from the Partnership for a Healthier America to promote physical activity and combat childhood obesity.

The grant will be used for Play Streets, a national program in which a mile-long stretch of a city street, near a park, is turned into a car-free space for a few hours on one weekend day each month from May through September. The intent is to encourage activities including bicycling and jumping rope. More information will be announced next spring.
