LOCKPORT – A woman who already is on probation for a driving while intoxicated conviction in Erie County avoided jail time for a DWI felony in Niagara County Court Thursday.

Jeanene M. Hagar, 34, of 66th Street, Niagara Falls, had pleaded guilty to DWI and unlicensed driving in the wake of a May 23 arrest in Newfane.

At first, County Judge Matthew J. Murphy III sentenced Hagar to eight weekends in jail in addition to the probation, but defense attorney Andrew C. LoTempio talked him out of it, saying Hagar works weekends, earning $28 an hour as “a very talented hairdresser.” Murphy then imposed fines and fees totaling $2,570.

In another case Thursday, Corrie E. Delaney, 32, of Oliver Street, North Tonawanda, who was arrested twice for drunken driving in 2011, pleaded guilty to one felony DWI count to settle the cases. She is to be sentenced Feb. 22 by County Judge Sara Sheldon Farkas.
