LOCKPORT – One driver was sentenced and another pleaded guilty in Niagara County Court Wednesday in cases involving violations of Leandra’s Law, the state statute that adds extra penalties for driving drunk with passengers age 15 or younger in the vehicle.

An 18-year-old Royalton man was granted youthful offender status by Judge Sara Sheldon Farkas and sentenced to five years’ probation, four weekends in jail and fines and fees totaling $5,470. He was arrested March 25 in Newfane with two passengers, ages 14 and 15, who also were drinking.

Rosita Rosa, 30, of 10th Street, Niagara Falls, pleaded guilty to aggravated driving while intoxicated and was scheduled for sentencing Jan. 30. Rosa was arrested after her car rear-ended a minivan on Memorial Parkway in Niagara Falls May 5. Her children, then 3 and 8 years old, were in the car. Rosa’s blood-alcohol content was measured at 0.19 percent, more than twice the legal limit.
