Was there any doubt that after a record-setting weekend that Niagara junior Casen Chubak would earn Atlantic Hockey Association Goalie of the Week yet again?
Of course not.
Chubak earned the honor for the third week in a row, after leading the Purple Eagles to a weekend sweep at Army. Chubak posted his nation leading fourth shutout of the season last Friday in a 5-0 win over the Black Knights, making 27 saves. In that win, he became the first Niagara goalie to record a shutout in three consecutive games. That was also his fourth shutout in as many starts (he relieved Cody Campbell and yielded one goal during a 4-4 tie at Clarkson on Oct. 27). Chubak also set the Niagara record for consecutive shutout minutes, a string that ended at 258 minutes, 32 seconds during last Saturday’s 4-1 win at Army when the Black Knights scored with under seven minutes left in the game. That goal snapped a string of a 116 straight saves that began during a 3-0 win over UConn on Nov. 2.
Chubak (6-1-3) leads the nation in save percentage (.966), goals-against average (1.09) and his .750 winning percentage ranks ninth. Niagara visits local rival Canisius on Friday night at 7 at Buffalo State Ice Arena.
