An SUV slammed into the side brick facade of the McDonald’s Restaurant in the University Plaza late Monday morning, leaving one customer with a leg injury that authorities described as minor.

The vehicle smashed into the west, drive-thru side of the McDonald’s at 3540 Main St. shortly after 11 a.m., Amherst police Lt. Chris Meyer reported. The injured person was taken to the nearby Veterans Affairs Medical Center.

The driver, whose name hasn’t been released, has been ticketed for being an unlicensed driver, driving an uninspected vehicle and not having a current insurance card, police said.

The McDonald’s remained open, as Amherst building inspectors went to the scene to inspect the damage.
