A trio of Section VI boys soccer teams ran into the Section V buzzsaw at the Far West Regionals in Hamburg on Saturday.

A combined crowd of 1,500 took in a Rochester sweep of a tripleheader at Hamburg’s Howe Field. Previously undefeated Clarence fell, 3-0, to Webster-Schroeder in the Class AA game and East Aurora was also handed its first loss in Class B, a 3-2 thriller against Livonia. North Collins also lost to Jasper-Troupsburg, 2-0, in Class D.

The middle match was an electrifying contest between the top two Class B teams in the state. Top-ranked Livonia (19-0-1) got two goals in the first seven minutes – both coming off East Aurora (20-1) miscues – and will join the Bulldogs and Wildcats at the state final four at Middletown High School on Saturday.

Kory Zimmer scored just 61 seconds in, chipping a ball over misplaced Blue Devils keeper Chris Norcia. Six minutes later it was 2-0 when Cameron French cashed in a Harrison Fay giveaway just outside the box.

“We gave them the goals on mistakes,” East Aurora coach Kevin Beale said. “We had our chances, but mistakes killed us.”

The Blue Devils got within one when senior Parker Healy drifted to the right and ripped a shot past Livonia keeper Sean Smith in the 30th minute.

East Aurora thought it had the equalizer before the half, but the offside flag kept the Blue Devils pressing for the tie. Tanner Pierce made it 3-1 Bulldogs four minutes before halftime.

East Aurora got within one, again, in the 42nd minute on Kyle Kleckner’s goal.

That set up a furious second half, which saw the Blue Devils do everything but level the scoreboard. After multiple near misses – which included a shot off the crossbar, EA’s best chance to tie came with five minutes left, but senior Ryan Thompson shot over the net on a one-on-one chance.

“With the wheels they had and the way they knock the ball around, that’s the best team I’ve seen in a long time,” Livonia coach Ray Maxwell said. “I was only comfortable when the clock went to zero.”

Clarence, the second-ranked Class AA team in the state, was unable to mount a consistent attack against No. 5 Webster Schroeder, who scored three times in 12 minutes late in the second half. Webster Schroeder (18-1-2) controlled play throughout the match, finally breaking through in the 61st minute when Nick DelGalzo finished a cross in the box.

Eric Stauchen scored in the 59th minute, and Morgan Kpor also scored two minutes later.

Clarence (18-1-1) keeper Michael Biedny made 14 saves, while Warriors keeper Andy Siviy didn’t face a shot on target.

Tyler VanSkiver netted both goals for Jasper-Troupsburg (15-4-2) in the chippy Class D match.

Sophomore Kyle Loretto made nine saves in net for North Collins (13-4), while J-T goalie Cameron Groff made five in the shutout.
