The 10 finalists for the Connolly Cup were announced by the award’s selection committee for the first time in conjunction with The News during PrepTalkTV Sunday, and the list includes four players who have helped their respective teams play deep into November and six others who were just as vital to their teams’ successes.

The winner will be announced at the annual banquet Dec. 1 at Ilio DiPaolo’s Restaurant in Blasdell.

Alden running back Corey Barczykowski, Orchard Park running back Mitch Wilson and Sweet Home quarterback Mike Torrillo are among the finalists who still have chances at leading their teams to state titles. Running back Qadree Ollison has a chance at helping Canisius, the News’ No. 1 Large School, cap its season with the Monsignor Martin Association playoff championship Saturday at Ralph Wilson Stadium against Timon-St. Jude.

The other finalists for the award include Lockport running back James Chambers, South Park quarterback Maurice Howie, St. Joe’s tailback Ilo Noble, West Seneca East quarterback Andy Smigiera, St. Mary’s running back Nick Vallone and Akron quarterback Austin Mietz.
