The temperature peaked at 70 degrees today - a new record. But get ready for a reality check.

That 70-degree mark was hit early this afternoon, topping the 68 degrees that was recorded in 1964 and several other years before that, according to Jon Hitchcock, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Buffalo.

“This won’t last for long, obviously,” Hitchcock said.

Sure, it’ll be mild tonight, with lows in the upper 50s, and still warm Monday, with temperatures reaching the mid-60s early in the day.

But it’s all downhill come Monday night, when temperatures will fall into the 30s. Rain also is forecast, and may end up as wet snow.

“We have about 24 hours left of warmth,” Hitchcock said this afternoon.
