On Tuesday, you can get a good meal with a side order of good deeds, as Dine Out for a Promise raises money to help homeless families.
The event is part of National Homeless Awareness Week (Nov. 10-18) and at least 10 local restaurants have promised a percentage of the evening’s food bills to Family Promise of WNY, a nonprofit agency coordinating programs and volunteers aiding local homeless families. In Erie County, families make up nearly 40 percent of all homeless people. Last year Family Promise helped 27 families with emergency shelter needs, the agency said.
Participating businesses, which have pledged 15 to 25 percent of food proceeds, range from burgers and beer establishments to fine dining. They include Cecelia’s Ristorante (716 Elmwood Ave.), La Dolce Vita (1472 Hertel Ave.), Amy’s Place (3234 Main St.), 31 Club (31 Johnson Park), Shango Bistro & Wine Bar (3260 Main St.), Salvatore’s Italian Gardens (6461 Transit Road, Lancaster), Buffalo’s Best Grill (3700 Southwestern Blvd., Orchard Park), The Library (4224 Maple Road, Amherst), Ilio DiPaolo’s (3785 South Park Ave., Blasdell) and The Hollow Bistro & Brew (10641 Main St., Clarence).
