NIAGARA FALLS – Assemblyman John D. Ceretto is hosting a charity drive for downstate communities devastated by Superstorm Sandy.

Supplies are being collected at Ceretto’s office, 1700 Pine Ave., from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. today and Tuesday. The items donated will be shipped via Albany to Staten Island, Queens and Long Island next week.

“Basic supplies such as bottled water, diapers and [C and D cell] batteries are in great demand in these affected communities. Now is the time for all New Yorkers to come together to help our fellow citizens,” Ceretto said.

Other items sought include bottled water, canned and nonperishable food, can openers, flashlights, garbage and Ziploc-style bags, work gloves, bleach and other cleaning supplies, and baby wipes.

Also sought are school supplies, toilet paper, paper towels, toothpaste and toothbrushes, blankets, and clothing, including hand warmers, winter hats, gloves and scarves, Ceretto’s office said.
