The Salvation Army set a goal of raising $1.25 million during its annual Red Kettle campaign, which kicked off Friday on the steps of City Hall.

The organization, which provides job training, emergency shelter, groceries and disaster relief, has seen the need for a services increase in the last year, said Executive Director Major Thomas Applin, who is coordinator of the Salvation Army in Buffalo.
