The Western New York Girls’ Schools Coalition: Project Educate is a collective body composed of student representatives from Nardin Academy, Buffalo Seminary and Sacred Heart Academy. To assist in the rebuilding of Afghanistan through the construction of schools, the coalition has raised more than $35,000 since its inception in 2002, has built one school, the Zarghona Middle School for Girls, and has assisted in two other school constructions. The coalition plans to build a girls dormitory next to the Rhema Revival Gardens School in India by combining efforts with Georgetown University. The local chapter’s goal this year is to raise at least $12,000 separately and $30,000 collaboratively with Georgetown. To increase awareness in our area, the WNY Girls’ Schools Coalition holds a Powder Puff Football Tournament in the fall and a fashion show in the spring.

At 10 a.m. Saturday, girls from Nardin Academy, Sacred Heart Academy, Buffalo Seminary, Holy Angels Academy and Mount St. Mary Academy will be playing in a flag football tournament to raise funds for the annual project. Taking place at Larkin Field, this event presents an opportunity for members of the community to support this cause. Enjoy a fall day watching football and tasting treats from a bake sale while helping others one school at a time.

QUOTE OF THE DAY

“I can’t deal with someone wanting to take a relationship backward or needing space or cheating on you. It’s a conscious thing; it’s a common sense thing. ... I just don’t ever want to end up in a relationship that isn’t fair ever again.”
