A Depew man was charged last weekend with felony drugged driving and unlicensed operation after a hit-and-run crash in Cheektowaga that injured a young child.

Ryan Wahl, 23, of Banko Drive, was ordered held in the Erie County Holding Center in lieu of $100,000 bail during his arraignment Saturday. Cheektowaga police released information about the case today.

Wahl is accused of running a red light about 6:30 p.m. last Friday while headed east on George Urban Boulevard at Dick Road and striking a vehicle occupied by a family from Buffalo, police reported.

A young child in the car was injured and taken to Mercy Hospital, police said.

Wahl drove off from the scene, police said, and was arrested a short time later in a nearby parking lot. He was charged with felony driving while under the influence of drugs, vehicular assault, leaving the scene of a personal injury accident a felony aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle.

Police said Wahl has a pending felony DWI case from Sept. 28 in Depew and two prior alcohol-related convictions.
