An Ontario woman was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Richard J. Arcara to three years in prison Thursday for smuggling marijuana.

Karlene Powless, 28, of Brantford, Ont., had previously been convicted of conspiracy to import marijuana into the United States from Canada and bail jumping.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Mary Catherine Baumgarten said Powless and co-defendant Danielle Bomberry were arrested at the Peace Bridge in 2004 after smuggling various amounts of marijuana about 15 times before their arrest.

Bomberry, 29, of Oshweken, Ont., was previously sentenced to 3½ years in prison by Arcara.
