NUTTY BUDDIES – Olean-area residents and visitors are invited to immortalize themselves and their loved ones in photos with the fanciful squirrel statues from Olean’s Woodland in the City project. The best of them will be chosen to appear in the 2013 Squirrel Calendar sponsored by the Greater Olean Area Chamber of Commerce.

Entries, with name, address and phone number, are needed by next Wednesday and can be dropped off at the Chamber office, 120 N. Union St., or emailed to tourism@oleanny.com. The committee requests that those in the photos do not sit on the squirrels.

Squirrel lovers will be happy to know that the Chamber also has many squirrel items available as gifts, including a plush toy, an ornament, a dice game and T-shirts.

TWO WAYS TO GIVE – St. John Eudes Knights of Columbus and the Red Cross are co-sponsoring a Veterans Day blood drive from 11:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday in Church of the Assumption, 435 Amherst St., near Grant Street.

In conjunction with the blood drive, the Red Cross is coordinating an effort with the Niagara Falls Air Reserve Station to collect items for our troops, including non-perishable foods, candy, socks, toothpaste, soap and other personal care items.

SWEET SOUNDS – The Response to Love Center will benefit as Victoria Cabri Ruggiero and the Blessed John XXIII Adult Choir and other musicians perform in concert at 7 p.m. Friday in the church at Harlem Road and Arcade Street, West Seneca. PAWS FOR VETS – Ten Lives Club cat rescue and adoption group is hosting a Veterans Day party from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday in the Knights of Columbus Hall, 36 Pierce Ave., Hamburg. There will be theme baskets, crafts and other items for sale, along with drawings and games of chance.

In accord with a Lucky 7 theme, there will be free 7-Up to drink, 7-7 drink specials, a seven-course meal and Lucky 7 scratch-off lottery tickets for the first 25 veterans or active military who enter with a $50 VIP ticket or purchase a meal. The meal is $10, or $7 for veterans or military with ID. There will be a raffle with cash prizes of $70, $700 and $7,000. IN THE TRADITION – EasterFest 2012 was such a success at St. Casimir’s Church, 160 Cable St., that the parish has decided to expand its special Polish-American activities. The first of them takes place at 6:30 p.m. Friday and will feature pierogi-making, ornament-making, Christmas caroling and a krupnik class, all of which lead into the December programs – a wigilia on Dec. 15 and caroling in Kaisertown on Dec. 27 and 28.
