WARSAW – Matthew T. Adams, 21, of Hilton, is being held in the Wyoming County Jail after his arrest Tuesday by state police he stole several thousand dollars worth of jewelry from a private residence in Pike, state police reported.

Adams is accused of stealing the jewelry while a guest in the victim’s home, troopers said. He is accused of taking the goods to Rochester and pawning them.

Adams was charged with third-degree grand larceny for the jewelry theft and criminal impersonation for allegedly giving Wyoming County sheriff’s deputies a false name when he was interviewed in the jewelry case some time ago, troopers said. He was tracked down at a Rochester home and jailed in lieu of $15,000 bail.
