A man’s body was retrieved Wednesday morning from the Niagara River, at the foot of Porter Avenue, according to Buffalo police.

The discovery, by a Buffalo State College police officer, was made just before 9:30 a.m.

Members of the Buffalo Police Underwater Recovery Team brought the body ashore. Homicide detectives said it appears to be that of a white man in his late 40s or early 50s.

An autopsy will be performed by the Erie County Medical Examiner’s Office to determine the cause of death.
