Veterans Day events will be marked this weekend by a series of observances sponsored by the Canisius College Office of Veterans Services and Army ROTC.

Lt. Col. Gerald “Andy” Boston, of the Army War College, will give a talk titled “A Time to Serve, a Time to Lead” at 9 a.m. Saturday in Room 311, Lyons Hall.

Monday, college President John J. Hurley will offer remarks at a Veterans Day observance at noon at the college’s Greatest Generation Memorial.

The names of all service members who died in Iraq and Afghanistan then will be read. The roll call is expected to last several hours.

As part of the roll call, Canisius will observe a minute of silence at 2 p.m. to honor the fallen.

Also on Monday, Brian Castner, a former Air Force explosives ordnance officer, will read from his new book, “The Long Walk: A Story of War and the Life that Follows,” at 1 p.m. in the Bouwhuis Library.

All Canisius faculty and staff who are veterans are being encouraged to wear their service medals and ribbons on Monday.
