Brad Angelo of Lockport rolled a 279 in his final game to win the top berth in Saturday’s stepladder finals of the PBA Viper Championship during the GEICO PBA World Series of Bowling at South Point Bowling Center in Las Vegas, Nev. The finals will be aired on ESPN on Dec. 23.

Angelo, who won his only PBA Tour title in the 2008 Pepsi Viper Championship, bowled games of 236, 258, 199, 227, 236 and 279 during the six-game semifinal round to finish with a 14-game total of 3,344. He will be joined in the finals by Sean Rash, Mika Koivuniemi and Mike Fagan.

“I’ve been executing well for the last few years, but getting that little half-pocket strike to keep a string going hasn’t been there,” Angelo said. “At this level, if you don’t get those strikes, you can’t compete.”

In the Cheetah Championship held Saturday Joe Ciccone of Buffalo earned $2,500 with his 10th place finish while Ryan Ciminelli finished tied for 13th to earn $2,050.
