Amherst police detectives are working with the Syracuse Police Department as they search for a person of interest in the slashing and stabbing Sunday of two Boulevard Mall security officers.
Dardrequez L. Haynes, 24, whose last known address is in Syracuse and who police believe was in Amherst over the weekend, is wanted for questioning about the knifing incident, Amherst police detectives said late Monday.
Police released a photo of Haynes, who is about 5 feet, 9 inches tall and 150 pounds. Detectives said he may have returned to the Syracuse area after the two mall officers were stabbed while trying to arrest three suspected shoplifters in the mall parking lot about 5 p.m. Sunday.
The security officers, whose injuries were not considered life-threatening, were treated in Erie County Medical Center. Their names have not been released.
Amherst Detective Lt. Rick Walter told The Buffalo News that Amherst authorities contacted Syracuse area authorities as soon as word was developed about Haynes and his possible connection to the mall incident.
Anyone with information about the incident, or Haynes, is asked to call Amherst detectives at 689-1329.
