Jessica Pegula will have to wait at least one more week to win her first professional singles title.

The daughter of Buffalo Sabres owner Terry Pegula lost Saturday in the semifinals of the $50,000 ITF Challenger Tevlin International, 7-6 (1), 7-5, to Canadian Sharon Fichman in Toronto.

“I was hitting the ball well and playing well but she’s really tough,” said the 18-year-old Pegula, who is based in Florida and entered the tournament ranked 156th in the world. “With her, I think I have to move forward and come in a lot and stay aggressive. I thought I did that well at times but I didn’t really do it the entire time so maybe I just needed to focus on what I needed to do just a little bit more than what I did today. But I had a very good week. For me, it’s all about getting experience. I just move on to the next one and start all over again.”

Pegula will travel to Phoenix, where she will play in another Challenger tournament this week.
