Voicemail for telephones at Buffalo Police Headquarters has been knocked out because of long-distance problems caused by Superstorm Sandy.

The Verizon computers that handle voicemail for phone lines at headquarters are situated in New Jersey, according to Buffalo Police Inspector Joseph Strano.

Sections of New Jersey were hammered by the storm, and Strano says there is no timetable for when the voicemail function will be restored.

But individuals with urgent information for the different investigation squads at headquarters can still call the department’s confidential tip line, 847-2255, or 911, Strano said.
