A 30-year-old Gowanda man was killed in a crash on the Seneca Nation’s Cattaraugus Reservation early Saturday morning.

Jerrod T. Kennedy was driving north on Route 438 around 3 a.m. when he lost control of his 2010 Ford Fusion while trying to negotiate a curve in the road, according to the Erie County Sheriff’s Office.

Kennedy’s vehicle struck a tree, causing it to spin and flip before coming to rest on the road.

A passenger in the car, Sheldon G. Leroy, 24, of Versailles, was treated at the scene by Cattaraugus Indian Reservation firefighters, then taken by Mercy Flight to Erie County Medical Center, according to the Sheriff’s Office. He was treated and released.

The cause of the crash is still undetermined.
