Judith Ann Reitz, of the Town of Tonawanda, director of the Outreach Center at St. Amelia Catholic Church, died Wednesday in Kenmore Mercy Hospital, Town of Tonawanda, after a short illness. She was 72.

Born Judith Ann Hovey in Buffalo, she attended Bennett High School and worked as floor clerk and office secretary at the J.J. Newberry store on Jefferson Avenue.

After raising her son, Mrs. Reitz worked about 10 years for Big Lots in the Young Street store in City of Tonawanda, where she was in charge of the apparel department.

She also began working part-time at the Outreach Center at St. Amelia’s Church, then became full-time director 14 years ago.

She was honored in 2008 as one of the Tonawanda News’ first group of Women of Distinction.

She was a 2000 graduate of the Town of Tonawanda Police Department’s Citizens Police Academy.

Surviving are her husband of 54 years, Richard M.; a son, Mark; and a sister, Sandra Rementer.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 9 a.m. Saturday in St. Amelia’s Church, 2999 Eggert Road, Town of Tonawanda.
