The Springville-Griffith School District has approved a new contract with the Springville Faculty Association that calls for a small salary increase but will require, for the first time, teachers to contribute toward their medical insurance.
The agreement, effective August 2010 through August 2015, has no retroactive adjustments but provides a 1 percent salary increase for the members in each of the next three years. Superintendent Paul Connelly said the “protracted” negotiations spanned three years and reached an impasse earlier this year, with insurance contribution being one of the main sticking points.
This year, teachers will pay $400, and those with single coverage will pay $150. Teachers will pay 5 percent of their insurance premiums next year and 10 percent in 2014-15. The board passed the measure, 4-1. Steven Schunk cast the lone opposing vote.
