The American Red Cross on Wednesday dispatched seven volunteers and two emergency response vehicles from Western New York to storm-ravaged areas across the state.
Thousands of people have spent time in hundreds of Red Cross shelters across the state in the aftermath of Superstorm Sandy. The Red Cross has served more than 100,800 meals and snacks and mobilized more than 2,300 disaster workers and nearly 200 emergency vehicles to affected areas. At least 25 volunteers from the Western New York region have so far been deployed.
Meanwhile, the Red Cross has issued an urgent appeal for blood donors to make up for the thousands of donations canceled on the East Coast this week. For information or to make an appointment, call toll-free (800) RED CROSS (733-2767).
