The Blasdell Village Board has thrown its support behind legislation pending before the Assembly and State Senate that would make it mandatory for lending institutions to provide contact information for those parties responsible for vacant, abandoned or foreclosed homes.

Village Administrator Janet Plarr said there were about five foreclosures in the village this year and, as the properties deteriorate, either through overgrown landscaping or broken windows, it can be nearly impossible to track down those responsible for repairs.

Trustees noted that the unmaintained properties also “degrade and depreciate” surrounding structures.
