YOUNGSTOWN – Niagara County Legislature Vice Chairman Clyde Burmaster presented a $1,000 grant on behalf of the Niagara County Legislature to Old Fort Niagara to support 2013 programs at the fort.
Funds will be used to hire seasonal interpretive personnel who present historical demonstrations at the historic site and as part of outreach programs throughout the area.
Plans to commemorate the second year of the War of 1812 are already under way. In 2013, events will mark the bicentennial of the capture of both Fort George and Fort Niagara and the burning of the Niagara Frontier.
“Our ultimate goal is to raise about $50,000 to sustain educational programming through 2013,” said Robert Emerson, executive director of the Old Fort Niagara Association. “Niagara County’s lead gift gives us a good start.”
