NIAGARA FALLS, Ont. – The cyclist fatally injured and left to die on Taylor Road Monday afternoon was identified today by the Niagara Regional Police Service and St. Catharines Standard newspaper as Paul Hollingsworth, 68, of St. Catharines.

Authorities also said they are investigating the possibility that drugs played a role in the decision of driver Ryan Logan, 25, of Niagara Falls, Ont., to drive off after the 4:15 p.m. incident.

Logan already has been charged with failing to stop after a crash, causing death and impaired driving, Police said he may face an additional charge of driving while impaired by drugs if ongoing tests prove positive.

Hollingsworth, who was not wearing a helmet, was heading east on his bike on the shoulder of the roadway in the rain, near the Leon’s Store, when Logan’s GMC Jimmy struck him.

Logan then drove off, police said, and was arrested in Niagara Falls, Ont. about four hours after the incident. Authorities are still investigating the crash and are asking witnesses to contact the police Collision Reconstruction Unit at 905-688-4111, Ext. 5500.
