The Allegany County man who claims to own half of Facebook was detained Wednesday as part of the new criminal case against him.
A federal judge in Manhattan ruled that Paul Ceglia should be kept in federal custody unless he posts a $250,000 bond, backed by his family’s real estate holdings, as bail.
If Ceglia does post the bond, he would be required to wear an electronic monitoring device and be prohibited from traveling more than 15 miles from his home in Wellsville until he appears in Manhattan federal court.
Federal prosecutors in Manhattan have charged Ceglia with wire and mail fraud in connection with his civil lawsuit claiming partial ownership of Facebook. The civil suit is still pending in Buffalo federal court.
