Erie County Executive Mark C. Poloncarz is seeking federal aid for a project aimed at making improvements to the intersection at Strickler and County roads in Clarence.

Poloncarz has presented the Legislature a resolution that would authorize the county to participate in a federal High Risk Rural Roads Program to help local governments fund improvements at rural intersections where the rate of traffic accidents exceeds the statewide average.

Strickler and County roads was the site of a horrific crash in 2009 that killed four teenagers.

Under the proposed upgrade, drivers on County Road would see a blinking yellow light at Strickler Road, alerting them to crossing traffic, while drivers on Strickler would see a blinking red light.
