Dr. Michael J. Gianturco, of Williamsville, a retired surgeon, died Thursday in Buffalo General Medical Center after a short illness. He was 82.
He was born in Buffalo and graduated from the University of Buffalo in 1955. He worked as a surgeon, with an office in Snyder, from 1954 until his retirement in 2001.
Dr. Gianturco left the area for one year, 1957-58, for military service in Albany, Ga. He served as a lieutenant and medical officer in the Navy.
He was a member of Brookfield Country Club, Clarence.
His wife, the former Geraldine Panepinto, died in 2011.
Survivors include two daughters, Linda, and Mary Wynne; two sons, Michael and James; and three brothers, Thomas, Angelo and Daniel.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday in St. Benedict Catholic Church, 1317 Eggert Road, Eggertsville, following prayers at 8:45 in Pacer Funeral Home, 2275 George Urban Blvd., Depew.
