If you attended the Flaming Lips show at Artpark in 2011, then you likely caught the opening set from Rhode Island-born, Brooklyn-bred Fang Island. Just as likely, you heard the pure joy in the band's often experimental but consistently upbeat presentation.
Musical euphoria seems to be Fang Island's stock-in-trade, as the group's recently released sophomore effort, "Major," attests. Guitarist/vocalist Jason Bartell puts it this way in the band's official bio: "One of our core ideas has always been that our songs would be all of your favorite parts of the song that other bands make you wait eight minutes to get to ... We wanted to be the band that's nothing but your favorite hooks back to back." That pretty much nails it.
For the recently launched tour that sees the band performing at 8 p.m. Thursday in the Tralf Music Hall (622 Main St.), Fang Island will be joined by friends Anamanaguchi and opener Fourwalls. Tickets are $12 advance (box office, Ticketmaster.com), $14 at the door.
