He attended Canisius College and began working for the Buffalo Fire Department in 1996.

Mr. Woods received a Unit Citation from the fire commissioner in 1997 for assisting in a rescue from a burning home on St. Johns Place.

This past April, he assisted in the delivery of a baby girl when his company was called to a home on Dempster Street. It was the crowning moment in his career with the fire department, his family said.

Surviving is a son, Izaiah; two daughters, Mydasia and Mariyah; his parents, Joanne and Philip Woods; a sister, Kara Williams; and a brother, Matthew.

The family will receive visitors at 11 a.m. Monday in Antioch Baptist Church, 1327 Fillmore Ave., where funeral services will follow at noon.
