Construction began last week on Buffalo Promise Neighborhood’s new early childhood education center, which will help prepare children in the 14215 ZIP code for kindergarten, elementary school and beyond.

The childhood center, being built at Bailey Avenue and Amherst Street, is the first step in the cradle-to-college-and-career initiative of Buffalo Promise Neighborhood.

Scheduled to open next year, the 10,000-square-foot building will serve approximately 150 children from infancy to age 5 and will be located across the street from the Westminster Community Charter School. It will be operated by Buffalo Promise and Bethel Head Start.

Funding for the education center includes a $1 million grant from the John R. Oishei Foundation and financial assistance from M&T Bank.
