The mother of a burglary defendant has pleaded guilty to fourth-degree witness tampering for trying to dissuade a prosecution witness from testifying against her son, the Erie County District Attorney’s Office announced Friday.
Theresa Bryant, 41, of Esser Street, could be sentenced to one year in jail when she appears before Erie County Judge Thomas P. Franczyk on Jan. 16.
She admitted trying on Aug. 31 to dissuade the witness from testifying.
Her son, Darius Bryant, pleaded guilty to attempted burglary on Sept. 9.
“Witness intimidation and witness tampering are not only crimes, they are also serious affronts to the integrity of the criminal justice system and will not be tolerated,” said District Attorney Frank A. Sedita III.
