LOCKPORT – The $16,222 cost of an asbestos analysis on the former Mount View Health Facility was approved this week by a Niagara County Legislature committee.

The Legislature previously allocated $10,000 for the testing, but the price from Sienna Environmental Testing of Buffalo exceeded that, said Richard W. Eakin, deputy of public works for engineering.

The county was required to determine the cost of removing asbestos from the closed five-story nursing home as part of a contract approved in July to sell it to David M. Tosetto of Youngstown for $550,000.

He wants to turn it into assisted living apartments for seniors, but his proposal has yet to be approved by the state Health Department. If the cost of asbestos abatement exceeds $50,000, either side can cancel the deal.
